how we started
I’ve been obsessed with animals (dogs, mostly) my whole life. While all of my friends were playing with dolls & barbies, I was playing with stuffed animals. I was never interested in any other type of toy. My neighbor, growing up, worked for an animal rescue company. She was always fostering cats & dogs, and I was ALWAYS at her house to play with them.
When I was in elementary school, my two brothers & I finally convinced my parents to get a dog. We welcomed sweet Harley (a pug mix) into our family. He was so full of life & he made our family complete. He brought us together in so many ways. We were absolutely obsessed with him.
When I was in middle school, I took sewing classes. My Nana gave me a sewing machine for Christmas one year and I began to love creating things with fabric. I sewed all sorts of things, but slowly became uninterested as I went into high school. It was then that I became more interested in fashion & interior design, as I’ve always had an eye for that.
Time passed, I got married & moved away from home. It was during this time that Harley, our sweet angel, passed away in June of 2020. I was heart broken. Those of you who have lost a furry family member, know how hard it is. I quickly learned that life without a dog, wasn’t for me. Harley lived with my family & I had to say goodbye to him once I moved out. Yet, I saw him often & still felt complete knowing he was safe at home. Once he passed, I felt so alone. My husband was so sweet & supportive, but he knew that I had a void that needed to be filled.
Not too long after, we placed a deposit on a puppy that would be born in August. As I was preparing to be a dog mom, I searched high & low for the cutest accessories. There weren’t many options & I was often disappointed in the quality. Instead of settling for mediocre accessories, I decided to create my own. I pulled out the old sewing machine & watched a couple of refresher YouTube videos. Once I got started, it was like I had never stopped. I spent days trying to figure out sizing & templates for my bandanas. My love for fashion came in handy, while searching for cute fabrics. Everything was coming together & I was obsessed with my new hobby! Soon after, I decided it would be fun to sell some of my bandanas to my fellow dog-lovers! That's when the idea of Wonder Pup Co was born.
This shop represents who I am as a person. It’s the perfect mix between my passion for animals & my love for fashion. I hope you enjoy these products as much as I do.
how we got our name
2020 was rough for most of us. We all had our fair share of trials. For my husband & I, we felt like our world was crumbling. Once we got the news that we needed to quarantine, my husband started working from home & I wasn’t able to work at that point. As a lash technician, I was considered an “unessential business” at the time. A few days later, we got the news that we needed to move. We were renting a house from some friends that were living in Hawaii. They had to come home because of COVID & we had 2 weeks to move out. We had nowhere to go with such short notice, so my sweet in-laws let us move in temporarily. We were able to quarantine with them for a couple of months! We soon realized that the virus wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon.. so we decided to start looking for a new place to live. We had wanted to get a dog for a long time, but we weren’t ever allowed pets in the apartments & house that we rented. Once we decided we were going to look for a place to purchase, we knew we could finally get our fur baby. We were talking to breeders & had already placed a deposit on our unborn pup before we found a new place to live! Can you tell how badly we wanted him?! We started looking at townhomes & we found one that was absolutely perfect for us. We were able to buy it & move in at the end of July. Our pup was born just a couple of weeks later & the rest is history..
Moose really is our Wonder Pup. Our rainbow after the storm. Our everything. That’s why my husband & I decided to name the shop after our sweet boy ♡
